Actual RxReport™ Case
Kelly is a 60 year old woman, who was recently prescribed warfarin by her doctor to treat her atrial fibrillation. Her doctor put her on this anticoagulant to avoid blood clots from forming due to her condition. One week after she was on warfarin, Kelly was playing with her grandchildren when she suddenly started to become dizzy with shortness of breath and an elevated heart beat. Kelly fainted and when woken up, she had internal bleeding in her eye – one of her eyes was completely blood shot. Kelly went on short-term disability from work as a result.
How RxReport™ Helped
Fortunately, Kelly had a feeling something was wrong and ordered RxReport™. Her results were sent to her and her doctor, and it notified him that she was a poor metabolizer of warfarin. Poor metabolizers of warfarin cannot metabolize and clear warfarin out of their systems. This leads to an over anti-coagulation of the blood, thinning it out too much. Blood that is too thin can lead to internal bleeding, rapid heart beat, shortness of breath, and dizziness.
Kelly’s RxReport™ alerted her doctor to reduce her dose of warfarin, which they did. Two weeks after Kelly bounced back and the warfarin was working as intended. She had received the right dose of warfarin tailored to her because of her RxReport™.
As a result, Kelly returned to work and avoided a prolonged trial-and-error period in selecting the right drug at the right dose.
